impressive

If you created those string loops then I would be doubly impressed. But as it is - the piece is fantastic. Great listen...I was wondering at first when I was watching the nintendo power flash if this may have actually been created by someone on NG. The second half of the song isn't nearly as enjoyable as the first part - though still creative.

hard to rate, considering the nature of the remix

Of course, all in all - it sounds very good. I don't have a clue which elements are the original and which are yours but that's extra points make for making it hard to detect...

that is not an oboe

There is no identifiable "reed" sound whatsoever. Consulting with a friend of mine who has a masters in music - she confirmed the same thing. It's a muted trumpet followed by a clarinet. Even the very vibrato that makes its way in at the very end of the piece is never what you would hear done by a wind instrument.

The "wah-wah" sound gives it away in an instant. Try to find any example of an oboe ever making a sound similar to that. Good luck, because reed instruments don't function like that.

well

i'm rating this on basis of performance. in which case - it's oozing with talent. well done. especially the guitar part. goodness, i had to listen twice to the beginning there. the subtleties of that intro section are pulled off with some serious panache.

the kick is superb

Even for one of those typical trance songs that has the kick on every quarter note (this drives me nuts - i know it's the style of an entire genre basically but it still gets to me) it's still alright. Distortion creeps in at the loudest parts of the song. I think the idea could be extended upon a lot more (what's with all the crowd noise?). Some of the percussion is odd too. Anyway, the core elements are still good.

and of course, the kick is really what makes the song.

took me 3 seconds to rate this a 5/5

I don't like rap music personally - but I can appreciate it and I know the difference between someone with and without talent, and this is definitely an example of the latter. The rhymes are pretty decent. They could stick a little a tighter to the rhythm itself (ala eminem) or at be a little more carefully weighted across the timing (ala 2-pac). I would go for a little less processing on the vocals as well. A little too much phasing there.

but the thing (overall) is "bangin". ha. funny. 5/5

Thanks for the review. Ya, I overprocessed this one a bit, but inmy defense I had been drinkin' for a bit before finishin' this one up. As for the weighting, yah I feel ya, but on a freestyle my flow comes as it comes for each individual track. Some might come out different than this, but I went with a southern, Texas underground style of rhyme scheme on this one since I was freestylin' over a Texas beat. Appreciate takin' the time to review.

Peace

you honestly need to do some full songs

seriously, this is good. a full song would be really sweet, and I know a lot of people who would love this kind of stuff...

5/5

awesome

just need to say that this was sweet. the cut up samples were expertly done. very slick.

5/5

once again

swell job. the ambient elements are executed to near perfection - it's very obvious where your strengths lie. peaceful melodies, yanni style progression, drifting harmony, subtle backgrounds, etc. etc. Beautiful. Nicely done. can't fault this one at all - it's simple too smooth.

5/5

well done

it's not exactly my style for all intensive purposes, but it's an undeniably solid song. especially starting at 1:40 where it combines all the instruments. The bass line is a little too plain for my tastes. but the ambient elements are crafted absolutely flawless. could not have done a better job with all the time in the world myself. kudos there. i think in this one - that's really the part that counts...
