nice

it's hip. plenty of atonal character now and then. perfect for video game background now that I think about it. the idea is solid.

Eggwoman responds:

Thats sorta the vibe I tried to get for it, something repedative high pitched and stupid that would be used in a game.

sounds like something my brother would make

This a good kind of 6. I know sometimes those kind of scores are handed out as a bad thing but I have to rate you according to how I think you would compare against your actual potential. This song shows a lack of refinement (being that you were first starting out) but plenty of potential...

in the end that's what matters - you never want to start out great and then hit and immediate apex. that's like a death sentence for a musician or composer that want to make something of his work.

Garatorn responds:

This was the first song that i made... like when i was like 10 or 11...
i look back at these few that i have on here... and i realize that they arnt that great...

i like how it's all distorted

it's simple - but that's what makes it good. I'm thinking metal slug 3 or some neo-geo side-scroller while listening to this. The distortion seems to be intentional and it adds to the song so that's a plus. definitely not a masterpiece by any means but it is cool.

Garatorn responds:

yeah its sorta of like over powered though dont you think.... most of the beats and the main rythem are all to loud and it just like blows threw your headphones...

it doesn't matter that there is no melody

it's freakin awesome acid/big beat stuff. some people have trouble apprciating this style. it's really enjoyable. I'll probably next be throwing up a song much like this one as soon as I have some moar inspiration. wonderful job. This is truly a fun piece. a little more deep and involved than some people want to admit - takes a little more culture to see what going on in beats like these...

Garatorn responds:

... haha yeah does start out a little bit slow... but twords the end it gets much better... at least in my opion.... the one thing that i sorta just noticed are like the drum beats are just like all over the place... after uve listened to it for a while... at least for me

holy crap

this is good my brotha. MAD props.

interesting little number

had this been recorded with much better instruments it would sound worlds better off. some instruments are also much higher quality than others here to a point where it sounds like you've mixed crappy gm sounds off a generic sound card with a couple not-half-bad free soundfonts. too short tho.

harmony in places is top-notch.

MusicalRocky responds:

yeah definitely would've sounded better with better samples--then again it always will unless it's a real orchestra. gm sounds? well anway this was all done with the same VST: Edirol, so, the quality is kind of consistent I think.

I don't know about too short. It's supposed to be short. lol. You can't really call a song too short, just like you can't call a book or movie too short. I elaborated on the theme as much as I wanted to, so that was that.

Thanks for complimenting the harmony :D

Thanks for the nice review man,
Rocky

fantastic

this sound epic. The elements blend seamlessly - please pm me when you finish this one in particular...

the score should be much higher on this little preview

moves a little slowly...

Now - I will say that the recording itself is fine and very enjoyable. I suppose my issue here is that the piece takes so long to launch into a much more progressive and metal-ish portion.

Wow! i must say though - when that particular snare kicks in 1:45 - that sounds fantastic - the compression is bang on right there. I seem to be slowly getting the feeling though that those drums are played on an electric kit? V-drums?

The song is a good listen. The guitar part never seem to change from a dark tone and it doesn't seem to be double or quad tracked at any of the points which I think would assist this piece get a little bit more of an edge. Also just too dark in general. The playing makes up for this so an 8 sounds about right.

jdh504 responds:

Yeah, I can see your point there, it does take a good bit until it actually gets started, but that can probably be said for most of my songs lol.

Yeah, it's pre-recorded drums that came with my recording software(which is Line 6 Riffworks). I did really like the drums in this song in particular though.

Thanks for the review though, glad it was still enjoyable, thanks :D.

the elements are solid

It's needs a little bit more punch and liveliness however. Everything is a little to dry for my tastes. I mean, certainly, no-one wants 500 instruments drenched in 200% density airplane hanger reverb but I think here the parts would benefit tremendously from some more aggressive eq tweaks and ambiance effects. There are smaller criticisms I might state but the overall character of the song is still satisfying.

vipertarun responds:

Thanx I will take heed and make a remix wid the above tweaks you mentioned
