well...

the only thing that you really did here is "rap" over a song that you didn't make. Granted, it was clever in a sense - but it ends there in terms of originality. The least you could of done would have been to add some of your own parts and fx into the song to give it some variation.

I'm not sure about #1 spot either. I suppose not everything can be "Ultimate Showdown" quality, but they should at least keep me satisfied. A good effort for what it is nonetheless.

sonicmega responds:

It's true, I could have made an original song to go with this, but my audio skills are so horrible I fear it would have HURT this submission more than what I ended up using.

As for the #1 spot, that was not my decision, but the decision of the people who saw it and voted on it before the Weekly 5 and Top 50 were announced, so please don't hold that against me.

In any case, it seems you found SOME things right with it, so thanks for sharing with me!

ah... now the usual suspects up here.

Let me know when the movie comes out - sounds beautiful here. I'll buy a copy. I'm always ready to support such incredible amounts of effort that I in a way feel tied to through newgrounds. What it this software per say? Have you made some new purchases? It sounds amazing already.

Really nicely done.

kelwynshade responds:

I'll definitely have a huge posting when the movie comes out, that's for sure. I'm impressed to be honest that the rough draft had this effect on the Newgrounds Community to be honest.

VST's are honestly my new "software". I've aquired some really good ones. VST's are actually a new thing to me as I used to use onlu Soundfonts. ANYWAY, thanks for the review as always.

cool stuff

very well done. the mood and emotion is fantastic.

Some slightly better sampled instruments would do this huge justice. The chords used really worked beautifully.

djstormx responds:

Thanks. I've been trying to get Garritan Personal Orchestra for Reason 3, but it's too expensive right now. I've been working off of the Orkester CD that came with Reason and the strings that come with the Miroslav Choirs. BTW....your song "A Time to Heal" is absolutely FANTASTIC. What samples do you use? If any?

good sounding piece here...

Drums a little low in the mix but still discernible. Liked it more as it went along. Had this really nicely crafted groove to it actually. sweet!

xenith800 responds:

I don't see (or better said "hear") how the drums can be low. maybe the hats, but with them set higher it wouldn't give the same atmosphere.

why are headphones not reccomended?

It sounds fine. Headphones aren't meant to sound any "different". The quality is always going to be more important than simply headphones vs. speakers. Anyway. A great piece which keeps a level of energy flowing throughout that helps sustain all the parts (it's kinda synergistic I guess). Some sounds are a little higher quality sounding than other. The choir voices were well done. It brings in nice touches at parts with the strings. Very video-game oriented.

Draqo responds:

Yes I love strings and it's synthed choirs cousin. The series is indeed merging into the early 90's video game feel as with Episode 5 will be. Stay tuned.

Thanks for the review. :D

this rocks.

Dang. It's incredible. I can feel the emotion being presented here. I've got to download this one. It's absolutely top-notch. geez. so good.

Reasoner responds:

Awesome,,thanks for downloading it!

10 for the recording quality especially...

Phenomenal recording quality! What are using to mic this thing? It sounds really full and oozing with character. Sounds like some slight compression on there as well. Very nice. Quite enjoyable. Wish I could get my Kawai upright to sound like this. I guess I should post some of my piano songs. They don't sound quite as good (I had some crappy sm58 ripoff mics...) though. I suppose I could eq em to death though!

5/5

Reasoner responds:

I would love to lie right now and say that I used AKG C414's on the front with ribbon mics underneath in a studio hall hooked up to some killer preamps. But I'm afraid it's a multisampled piano patch from the Reason Refill Pack. I know.....I feel ashamed...lol. I couldn't fit a baby grand in my apartment ;-). Thanks for the review though.....your stuff is awesome as well.

very realistic...

oh my. I thought sound was coming from my speakers when really it was just from my headphones. That's how I know something sounds right. It always fools me into thinking it's coming from somewhere else and not the actual source. Well done! You're likely using an expensive library or something.

Geigamg responds:

Haha well in all hopes it will sound as epic as I want it too when i am through with it, but before that i have to make a D&B track ^_^.
Thanks for the review, i am fond of it.

I don't really like death metal growling vocals

but 8 for production and overall coolness. Good job! Most of the elements were recorded really quite well (not perfectly, but decent). Creativity and spontaneity are definitely the strong points here...

sculpted-cold responds:

I'm a terrible vocalist, but none of my friends wanted to do vocals for it so I just threw some over the song, hehe. I guess I should mention this was first written as a joke, but I've grown kind of fond of it as of late. Maybe I'll try to actually form the band.

Thank you for the review, though. :D

this is funky man

okay fine - I wont break the string of 10's you've got going on here.

This is some seriously fresh stuff, man. Something about it is just completely chill. Really easy listening and good for relaxing. It might just be all samples - but the way that you've put them together is what matters. You've got quite the feel for this stuff. I like it. Pretty awesome. I wonder what it would sound like for you to branch out and try some drastically different genres...

Soothsage responds:

Check Out the Blues section. There is some good stuff I've Been engineering lately! Throw out your wallet, Deeper blues, and held down by an anchor! You Are right this is a lot of sampling on this track, good ear! The drums are me however. Thank you for giving some thought into your review, I thank you for the even handed review.
